Originally found in China´s Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, the Tibetan Mastiff is among the world´s oldest and rarest large dog breeds. It has been listed as a second-class protected animal in China. According to records, there were Tibetan Mastiffs living in cold alpine regions over 3,000m above sea level such as the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau as well as in the Central Asian plains some 2,000 years ago. However, in China, the purebred Tibetan Mastiff are decreasing as the economic value upgrades.
