In today’s programme, we’ll hear about another bloody battle fought by the Expeditionary Force in western Yunnan, as they tried to capture the town of Tengchong. The city wall of Tengchong was built of volcanic rock. Each block of rock was two meters long and 30 centimeters thick. The city wall was nearly ten meters high. American airforce took part in the air attack on Tengchong. Every day 10 to 30 planes arrived to bombard the city. Finally they opened several gaps in the city wall. After rushing into Tengchong, the Chinese Expeditionary Force fought from house to house and moved ahead inch by inch. The battle in Tengchong was the most brilliant fought by the Chinese army in the eight years of the resistance war.
